Watching **EVIL DEAD BURN** becomes an ordeal that tests how close the line between the MPAA's R and NC-17 ratings can be pushed like no other horror film seen this year -- and maybe several years before. Assaulting audiences with tongue-in-cheek, stomach-churning horror has long been the hallmark of Sam Raimi's **EVIL DEAD** franchise since Bruce Campbell first fired up his chainsaw and declared it "Groovy" nearly 40 years ago. In director Sébastien Vanicek's hands, after Raimi handpicked him for this latest outing following his skin-crawling French-language debut **INFESTED** (2023), there is more humor -- but also far more cruelty than any prior film in the franchise.
